What do you mean when you mention curing?
Ah, this is probably one of the most important steps when it comes to concrete construction because proper curing will greatly increase concrete strength and durability. Concrete hardens due to what is known as hydration: this is the chemical reaction between the cement and water. But, hydration only occurs when water is available and if the concrete’s temperature remains within a certain range. During this curing period, which can be anywhere from 5 – 7 seven days, the concrete needs to be kept moist in order for the hydration process to be complete.
Can it be too hot or cold to install new concrete?
Depends, but, usually yes, temperature extremes does make it harder for concrete to properly cure. On scorching days, too much water will be lost due to evaporation from newly installed concrete. And should the temperature drop to freezing, hydration slows to almost a standstill. Under these conditions, concrete stops gaining strength and other desirable properties. Overall, the temperature of new concrete should be around 50 Fahrenheit during the curing time.
Can all concrete be stained or not?
Yes, concrete can be stained with both acid and water-based stains. They can be used also in exterior and interior settings, ranging from concrete floors to patios, pool decks, and driveways.
The most important consideration will be the overall condition of the concrete surface. If the concrete is covered in a layer of grime, glue, paint, other coatings, curing membranes or sealers which stop the stain from soaking in, then the stain is unable to penetrate and cannot achieve its full-color development.
